Cross Country Ski Trails

Skiing is a fun way to get out and stay active during winter. We have many cross-country ski opportunities here in the city. The trails are suitable for all ski experience levels.

Trail grooming schedule

  • Monday: Finlayson Island Trail West
  • Tuesday: Centennial Park, Holy Family School Trail
  • Wednesday & Thursday: North Shore Trail and King Hill
  • Friday: Finlayson Island Trail East

Weather permitting.

During the winter, we groom the trails in four areas for cross‑country enthusiasts.

The grooming schedule has been updated to match usage. If grooming falls on a holiday, it will be moved to the next available day. This week the parks department will reset the track on Finlayson Island and then start grooming the other trails. Thank you for your patience.

Locations

Centennial Park

Located behind the Access Communications Centre. Enjoy several kilometres of groomed trails here. The area is wide open. There is adequate light for the night skier.

Holy Family School Park

A short trail designed for use by residents. A very easy flat trail for beginners.

Finlayson Island

Located on the old Battleford highway. The trails are groomed on both sides of the island. Trails are well protected from wind through wooded areas, providing excellent skiing. Trails are looped, so shorter routes are available. Hiking is also popular on the island in spring, summer and fall.

North Shore Trail

The trail is located along the North Shore of the river and can be accessed from Poundmaker Trail near the pedestrian bridge to Finlayson Island. It is a 5.5 km loop in a wooded area, suitable for skiers of all levels. The trail runs east along the northern shore of the North Saskatchewan River, extending two kilometres past the F.E. Holliday Water Treatment Plant.

Ski Trail Etiquette

If you like walking in ski areas, please respect skiers by avoiding groomed trails, as footprints can damage the tracks. 

  • Dogs are not allowed on ski trails.
  • Follow signs on one-way trails.
  • Ski on the right side of double tracks.
  • Step off the trail for faster skiers.

  • Volunteer – help run fun activities for the community.
  • Advisory Committee – work to involve residents in sports, culture, and recreation by supporting non‑profits. Grant funds must fund programs that boost participation for under‑represented groups.
